Coffees and teas

Coffee – we just have 3 types in our cupboards:

Illy coffee

Illy coffee

  • ASDA’s Extra Special Zambian ground coffee for drinking. It’s got a smooth rich flavour but isn’t so strong that it grabs you by the throat. We also have
  • Illy’s Espresso – the finest coffee in the world and I can certainly recommend their coffee shops to you if you ever get the chance.
  • I also keep a jar of Kenco’s instant decaffeinated granules for making my Tiramisu. I can also really recommend Marks and Spencer’s Italian blend instant coffee as an excellent drinker.

Teas – essential for keeping the workers going!

  • Standard breakfast tea – PGTips all the way in our house. It’s got a real fresh taste and a good colour.
  • Redbush – My husband, Peter, loves this for its extra zing and clean taste.
  • Decaffeinated – My drink of choice. The Co-op’s fairtrade blend is as good as any full caffeine version.
  • Peppermint – great for digestion and for those times when you want something a bit different
  • Camomile – fab bedtime drink. If you have a couple of strong mugs of this, you can really start to feel your muscles relax. The whole flowers give a better flavour than the teabags, some of which can be a bit weak. For less mess, make it in a cafetière.
  • Earl Grey – my little sister’s favourite. A lovely flavour with the aroma of Bergamot.

Others

  • Hot chocolate – we tend to have the low calorie powders in our cupboard.  For a richer version, mix 4tsp with 1/3 mug of hot milk and then top up with hot water from the kettle. Add a shot of Bailey’s and either mini marshmallows, malteasers or aero bubbles for a really decadent treat.
